Recognized new clones of the Smederevka and Žilavka grape varieties
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republic of Serbia, in response to the request of the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Belgrade, and according to the decision of the Commission for recognition of vine varieties, rootstocks and clones, recognized and registered five new vine clones of the Žilavka variety in the Register of Agricultural Plant Varieties (clones Tvrdoš, Basilika, Atanasije, Sara and Dunja) and four new clones of the Smederevka variety (clones Nebojša, Zoran, Ljubica and Slavica).
The recognized clones represent the continuation of the realized and previously recognized 12 clones of the Prokupac variety (PR2, PR6, PR8, PR9, PR10, PR11, PR12, PR13, PR16, PR17, PR19, PR20; the designation “PR” stands for “Prokupac Radmilovac”). In the course of several years of research, most of the newly created clones of the Smederevka and Žilavka varieties were tested for production at various locations in Serbia, including the ODPF “Radmilovac”, as well as at locations in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Greece.
We congratulate professors Nebojša Marković and Zoran Pržić from the Institute of Horticulture on their success.
